I A m An Arti s t – 2
This series of drawing books is designed to introduce children to the elements of art. Each book encourages the children
to use new techniques which will help them explore different aspects of art. Each book has been carefully conceived to
provide the children with stimulating exercises which help them express themselves freely and confidently.
In this book the focus is on three basic elements line, shape and colour.
The children are introduced to different kinds of lines in a humorous manner. They are followed by related pictures,
effectively demonstrating their versatility.
Shapes are similarly introduced, followed by drawings which use the shapes learnt as their starting point. Thus the
subjects are simplified for the child to draw.
The colour section encourages the child to see the different shades in a colour and to use them in his art .
The child learns to differentiate between dark and light, or dull and bright shades of the same colour.
Finally, the finger printing technique allows the child to begin using paints in a controlled manner. After he has gained some
confidence in printing with his fingers, he can make beautiful pictures using his finger and paints.
A revision exercise at the end of the book ties in all that has been learnt thus far.
Pictures to colour in have been provided on each page, but the child should be left free to complete the pictures with
colours of his/her own choice.
This series has been designed by Purnima Sampat, who has taught art for 20 years and has taken Indian art to an
Layout Artist -Sameer Sapte, J. J. School of Arts.
